Very surprising news item I thought I’d post: there was a large gathering in Renmin Square in Guiyang yesterday in memorial of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. In China, the Massacre is usually referred to as the “June 4 Incident,” and quiet memorial services are often held in late may and early June. . . but something this large is a real surprise to me.
Renmin Square sits above the Walmart in which I played Santa Claus. I spent a lot of time flying kites in the Square before and after Walmart shopping sprees. I never saw anything remotely politically going on in the Square, so this 2 hour protest involving hundreds of people is a real shock.
